Chandigarh: NIA court extends remand of Babbar Khalsa terrorist Khanpuria for 4 more days


The police had registered the case on May 30, 2019, the NIA took it over on June 27.

Chandigarh. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Friday extended the police remand of most wanted terrorist Kulwinder Jeet Singh alias Khanpuria for four days in a 2019 case. He was on three-day remand of the State Special Operation Cell. Khanpuria is associated with Babbar Khalsa International and Khalistan Liberation Force. An NIA official told that the terrorist carrying a reward of five lakh rupees was arrested from Delhi airport.

Kulwinder Jeet Singh alias Khanpuria was wanted and involved in several terror cases including conspiracy to carry out targeted killings in Punjab. The police had been looking for him for a long time. He was on the run since 2019, and the NIA had announced a cash reward of Rs five lakh for information leading to his arrest. A report quoted an NIA official as saying that Khanpuria was declared a proclaimed offender by a special NIA court in Punjab in a case registered in Amritsar. After which a look-out circular and red corner notice was issued against him.

4 accused have been arrested
The case was initially registered by the police on May 30, 2019 and was later taken over by the NIA on June 27. Earlier, four co-accused who conspired with Khanpuria have been arrested. Arms and ammunition were recovered from them. The arrested terrorist was also involved in a bomb blast case in New Delhi’s Connaught Place in the 1990s and grenade attacks in other states, the official said.

Gangster Tinu’s remand also increased
On the other hand, a Mohali court on Friday extended the police remand of gangster Deepak Tinu for four days. The remand has been extended by Tinnu in the matter of arranging fake passports for the associates of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. On November 17, Tinnu was brought from Mansa on a production warrant and sent to the custody of the State Crime Branch. Tinnu is allegedly involved in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Musewala.
