Shikhar Dhawan explains why Sanju Samson is not getting a chance

New Delhi. Despite the continuous poor performance of Rishabh Pant in T20, Sanju Samson is not getting opportunities in this format. Even in the T20 World Cup, Pant was preferred over Samson. At the same time, despite joining the team in the 3-match T20 series against New Zealand, Samson did not get a chance to play in a single match. Now the three ODI series will start between the two teams from Friday. Under the leadership of Shikhar Dhawan, Team India will take on New Zealand two-two in ODIs. In such a situation, before this series, Dhawan revealed that after all because Samson is not getting opportunities in limited overs cricket.

Shikhar Dhawan said in the press conference regarding the first ODI against New Zealand, ‘Most of the players go through this phase, when despite a good performance in the previous series, they do not get a place in the playing-XI for the next series. In such a situation, the coach and captain should communicate with the player and explain why he is not being included in the team despite his good performance. Only then players like Samson will know why and why they are not getting a chance. By the way, broadly speaking, this happens only because of keeping in mind the benefits of the team.

Samson batted well in ODIs this year
If we look at Samson’s international career, it has been 7 years. Because he made T20 debut in 2015. But, in these 7 years, he got to play only 16 T20s and 10 ODIs. Samson has scored 294 runs in 10 ODIs at an average of 73. At the same time, in T20 too, he has scored 296 runs at a strike rate of 135. Despite this, this wicket-keeper batsman is repeatedly ignored because of Rishabh Pant.

Samson can be given a chance in place of Pandya
Samson has also been selected in the team for the 3 ODI series against New Zealand. There is little chance of him getting a chance in this series as well. Because Rishabh Pant is present in the team and he has been made the vice-captain of the team for the ODI series against New Zealand. In such a situation, he will be a part of Playing-XI. However, in the absence of Hardik Pandya, he can be given a chance with the intention of strengthening the batting in the middle order.

This year Samson batted well in ODIs. Samson has scored 248 runs in 9 ODIs this year with the help of 2 half-centuries. He has been not out in 5 matches. He has played many important innings at number-5 and 6 in ODIs this year. Now that Pandya has been rested in the ODI series, Samson can fulfill his responsibility.
